a brief introduction

My name is Joshua Handley.

Currently I am a 3rd year student studying Experience Design with a specialisation in Motion Design at IIE Vega School .

​

I am an enthusiastic and adventurous designer who is inspired by the power of communication and connection that design offers . Above everything I value curiosity, the act of bravely asking questions and adamantly searching for their answers. 

 

I am an artist with a background in visual art , music and theatre, all things I believe come out in the style and energy of my work. I am a member of my college's student body, Vega Voice, and specifically part of the Industry Committee where I plan ,execute and manage various on campus events that help students prepare themselves for the working world.

I design with passion because I believe that design is a powerful tool change society for the better ,to communicate ideas and inspire beliefs. I make sure that whatever I do, I am considerate about the impact my work makes socially and environmentally.

Don’t kill the cat , 

never punish questions or curiosity.

Ask stupid questions and consider the bad ideas, nothing should be ruled out and everything is useful.

Good design doesn’t harm. 

Ever .

Especially not intentionally. Good design is considered , reshaped , reframed , reworked , tested and used before it’s finished to make sure that it’s universally useable and considers all users and their experience.

Empathy is involved in every step .

Everything is connected 

​and if it’s not, people can tell.

If you have an idea , 

write it down or draw it . Even if it’s a mediocre idea.

Passion always shows , so get passionate.


A designers role is to make things work better , not worse.

  • 2022 - Ladies Committee Prize for Visual Arts Practical . Received the Visual Arts Practical Prize at Durban High School 

  • 2024 - Was one of the four national Vega students chosen by the MDFSA to have my project run as their official campaign for 2024
